One product or two: how to simplify your routine without neglecting it?
After washing, comes the leave-in step — the one that prepares the hair before styling. At Innersense, two products meet this need, but not in the same way: Sweet Spirit, a light spray that hydrates and detangles without styling, and Quiet Calm Curl Control, a cream that hydrates and defines curls in one step.
We are often asked which one to choose, and especially why some people use Quiet Calm Curl Control instead of Sweet Spirit. The answer is not a shortcut: it's a real routine choice, depending on the texture and the time you want to dedicate to it.
Sweet Spirit, the go-to leave-in
Sweet Spirit is a light spray with aloe vera, tamanu oil, and honey. Its only function: to detangle, hydrate, and balance hair porosity, without any styling effect. It is applied to damp hair, after rinsing conditioner, and before the styling step.
- Suitable for all textures, from fine waves to thick curls.
- Can also be used on dry hair to refresh a style on day 2 or 3, without starting over.
- Leaves you free to choose any styling product from the I Create range afterwards.
Quiet Calm Curl Control, the all-in-one alternative
Quiet Calm Curl Control is a nourishing cream with shea butter, rice bran oil, and rooibos tea. Unlike Sweet Spirit, it hydrates AND defines curls in the same step: it separates, smooths, and lightly structures, from scalp to ends.
- Designed for medium to thick hair, seeking natural definition and softness.
- Ideal for a single-product routine, especially for air drying.
- Does not set curls with a strong hold: its priority is hydration and shape, not hold.
Why it's not a shortcut, but a real routine choice
In our article on the I Create range, we explained that styling products never replace leave-ins: the seven I Create products do not hydrate on their own. This rule remains valid — but Quiet Calm Curl Control does not belong to this range. It is a separate hybrid cream, designed from the outset to hydrate and define in one step. Using Quiet Calm Curl Control alone is therefore not a routine error, it is simply choosing a different format.
How to choose between the two
- Fine to wavy hair, need for lightness: Sweet Spirit alone, or paired with a light styling product like I Create Volume.
- Medium to thick curls, simplified routine: Quiet Calm Curl Control alone, for soft definition without an extra step.
- Very defined curls, strong hold desired: Sweet Spirit followed by a dedicated styling product (Hold, Curl Memory, or Definition).
- Maintenance on day 2 or 3: Sweet Spirit to refresh without completely restyling.
Our opinion at Colorful Black
There is no right or wrong choice between the two: only a question of texture and routine organization. Sweet Spirit offers more control, step by step. Quiet Calm Curl Control offers more simplicity, in a single step. Both remain faithful to the same Innersense standard: truly hydrate, without ever weighing hair down.
