The History of the Olaplex Brand

Olaplex was founded in 2014 by Dean Christal , an entrepreneur with a passion for science and hair. To bring his vision—to repair hair from the inside out, even after harsh bleaching or treatments—to life, he enlisted the help of two materials chemistry experts: Craig Hawker and Eric Pressly , both researchers specializing in polymer chemistry.

Their mission? To create a molecule capable of reconnecting disulfide bridges , these bonds essential to the structure of the hair, often broken by coloring, straightening or excessive use of heating tools.

Their invention, Bis-Aminopropyl Diglycol Dimaleate , radically changed salon practices. For the first time, hairdressers could bleach or transform hair without compromising its integrity. The product went viral, first among professionals, then among the general public with the release of No. 3 in retail.

In less than 10 years, Olaplex has established itself as a major player in hair repair worldwide, present in more than 100 countries and adopted by millions of customers.
