The origin: a Haitian family recipe passed down from generation to generation

It all started in the backyard of Eva Biassou's grandparents, in the village of Piton in Haiti. Castor beans (Ricinus communis) are hand-roasted, crushed, then immersed in boiling water until a dark amber-colored oil is obtained — Lwil Maskriti, or "huile de carapate" in the French Caribbean, or "Black Castor Oil" in the English-speaking world. It is this artisanal, entirely traditional manufacturing process that distinguishes Lwil Maskriti from ordinary industrial castor oil. Roasting the seeds before pressing naturally raises the pH of the oil and alters its ash composition — giving it stimulating and fortifying properties that are much more intense than those of a classic cold-pressed castor oil. It is a unique product, born from a century-old Haitian savoir-faire.

Ricinoleic acid: the rarest and most effective hair active in the plant world

Castor oil is the only vegetable oil in the world to contain ricinoleic acid in significant concentration — between 85 and 95% of its composition. This hydroxy-unsaturated fatty acid, rare in nature, is responsible for all the hair properties of Lwil Maskriti. It stimulates blood circulation in the scalp, promoting the supply of nutrients to the hair follicles and thus growth. It coats each strand with a viscous, protective film that retains moisture, reduces breakage, and improves fiber elasticity. It has natural antimicrobial properties that help maintain a healthy scalp. And its exceptional viscosity makes it the most effective natural sealant available — significantly superior to ordinary vegetable oils for maintaining hydration in textured fibers.

The fourth step of the LOC routine: final sealing after the balm

In the complete EvasHair routine, Lwil Maskriti is the last step — after the Île-à-Vache Spray (hydration), the Belle-Anse Cream (nutrition), and the Anse-à-Galets Melting Balm (main sealing). A few drops are enough: warm them between your palms and distribute them over the lengths of the already applied balm. This double sealing of balm + oil is particularly recommended for high porosity hair, which loses water more quickly and needs maximum protection to maintain hydration for several days. For low porosity hair, a single sealing step (balm or oil, not both) is usually sufficient to avoid buildup.
